The UEWT5 features a compact tenor style EW body with a soft Florentine cutaway and a laminated mahogany top on mahogany back and sides with an open pore finish. The round soundhole has an abalone rosette. It has a mahogany neck with a 19-fret rosewood fingerboard with maple dot position markers. Components include an ivory plastic saddle in a rosewood bridge, a plastic nut and chrome Ibanez open gear tuning machines. For 2018 mahogany top, back and sides were changed to sapele and the rosewood fretboard was changed to purpleheart or treated New Zealand pine (depending on market) and the rosewood bridge was changed to purpleheart of ovangkol. For 2019 the mahogany neck was replaced with okoume and the fretboard and bridge were standardized as purpleheart.

Ibanez is one of the first Japanese musical instrument companies to gain a significant foothold in import guitar sales in the United States and Europe, as well as the first brand of guitars to mass-produce the seven-string guitar and eight-string guitar. The company has an impressive lineup of products ranging from instruments to pedals and accessories, and have recently raised standards and eyebrows with the new AZ Series, which Josh Smith described as the best superstrat he’s played in a long time.
